This project was designed for Essenze- New Zealand Design, I was briefed to design a light using pine plywood as the primary material. The design was to be in tune with the ‘Essenze aesthetic’, to be elegant, lightweight, reflect the use of natural materials, simple and timeless.
In my design a feature is made of the plywood, by accentuating the distinctive striped endgrain. My design borrows its name from the striped sandstone cliffs surrounding Auckland’s coastline. “Waitemata Sandstone”
My original design was then developed to improve the production method, by changing the production process from hand turning, to CNC cut. (the original 3 shapes at bottom of page were hand turned on the lathe)
My design has been featured in a number of magazines (NZ House & Garden, Urbis)
